Braille Calendar 2019 and Braille Magzine By Blind Resource Foundation Pakistan
On January 4th, the Blind Resource Foundation Pakistan celebrated the World’s Braille Day and members of Noor-ul-Ilm trust along with the Secretary General Mr. Muhammad Idrees Ali Muhammad Salat participated in the event. The World Braille Day is celebrated every year on January 4th because it’s Louis Braille’s birthday. He’s the inventor of braille! Louis was born in 1809 in France and became blind after a childhood accident. But, he quickly mastered his new way of living. When Louise was only 15 years old, he created a reading and writing system based on Charles Barbieri’s night writing system. We know Louise’s system today as braille. Adjusted over time, braille is now easier to read and used all over the world!
The program focused on reminding the people of our country of the importance of accessibility and independence for people who are blind or visually impaired. The program started with awarding a shield to Dr. Shehnaz Jatoi for appreciating her relentless efforts and successfully completing her PhD despite her visual impairment. During the event, BRFP for the first time in Pakistani history inaugurated the Braille Calendar 2019 designed and transcribed by Miss Erum Haroon. Next was the launching of the Braille Magazine designed by Miss Urooj Fatima (Asst. Professor), it was only after a long gap of 30 years that this magazine came to life, and it was given the name ‘Dil-e-Bina’ which is meant for the fun and pleasure of the blind individuals of Pakistan. Then, following a structured process the Braille Day Celebration came to its end with a consensus that on World Braille Day, let’s remember the contributions and do our part to make our workplaces and institutions more accessible for everyone.
