Impact of covid-19 on social life

(Lareb Aslam, sukkur)

Nobody knows what future holds similarly this happened in 21st century, the COVID 19 pandemic, also known as the corona virus pandemic, is an ongoing pandemic of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID 19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus 2 (SARS CoV 2). The disease was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The World Health Organization declared the outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 and a pandemic on 11 March. As of 14 of September 2020, more than 29 million cases have been reported in more than 188 countries and territories, resulting in more than 924,000 deaths; more than 19.6 million people have recovered.

As corona virus started permeating all over the countries of the world, social life has been disturbed that is quite unconceivable. The corona virus has changed the medium of our lifestyle. It has been affected over the every aspect of our life. There are many factors to discuss about. I will try to explain briefly and will also cover every aspect of social life.
Since the covid has been sparked in the global countries, all the educational institutions of the world have been shut down. As per World Health Organization’s suggestion SOPS have been introduced, and this has made mandatory to follow all the precautions according to SOPS. The most important thing was social distancing that we have to quarantine ourselves in our homes and maintain distance from each other at least of six feet. In order to follow the SOPS we all are restricted to learn from home. This badly affected over primary to secondary level because being a children and being a Pakistani it is quite difficult to learn through digital technology because most of the parents do not know that how to run digital gadgets if somehow they get to know but what about those 50 percent of parents who even do not have access to these mediums. However if we analyze that how students of higher education institutions have compete with this situation so we come to know about 70 percent of the students from all over the Pakistan are those students from katchi abadi or interior areas who even did not have access to sufficient internet connection we can’t even imagine that what type of hindrances they have faced contrary to it our ruling party were quite busy in some other important works like what could be the sufficient way to save the economy rather than thinking about the education which have already been paralyzed I must say that it has badly affected over educational sector.

Being a Muslim and religiously complexed country it is really hard to make soft talks with religious scholar on restriction of prayer congregation in mosques however, according to dawn the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Thursday endorsed the restrictions imposed by the government on Friday (03, April 2020) The governments of all four provinces and the capital administration have limited the number of people that can attend Friday and congregational prayers at mosques to 3-5 in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19. But as far as social distancing is concerned this factor has completely ignored by public and by religious scholars too. subsequently, police in Karachi had registered 88 First Information Reports (FIRs) and detained at least 38 prayer leaders and mosque officials for violating the government's restrictions on collective prayers. In contrast if we see other Muslim countries, like Malaysia, turkey, Bangladesh, Iran and North Africa these all countries have followed all the SOPS now, question is that are not they aware of Islamic teachings? As our Pakistani ulema are well known, are not their believe system is as strong on Allah as our Ulema’s? We find the example of the prophet excusing sick persons from attending Friday prayers (Al-Sunnah, Al Saghir 241), in times of plague he advised people to neither travel nor go to the infected place (Sahih Bukhari: 5730). The violation in Karachi and some other parts of the Pakistan as proved that we didn’t yet learn from the life of our Prophet Mohammad (SAW).

One of the worst impact of covid is on daily wager who earns on the daily basis and look after his family. However this has happened in the beginning when lock down was imposed strictly but after some time when our policy makers realized then decision has been made that smart lock down would be better. Apart from that there are a lot of generous people in our country who has helped people at every level. Somehow government has also announced packages for the daily wagers and for some other needy people but as far as my opinion is concerned this policy was out of the box, because those who got 12000 were those who are neither poorer nor daily wagers contrary to this who are poorer and needy they remained helpless, it’s like whistling in the wind.

No doubt Pakistan is one of the countries who has badly affected by corona virus. The poor and insufficient health care system of the country made it even more worst. It will not be wrong if I say that this pandemic has exposed many flaws in our healthcare system. But with the help of China, WHO and some other friendly countries Pakistan’s doctors, paramedical staff has done their duties in sufficient manner. Here the cause of concern is that now authorities have to make health system as capable as we can provide best services in future to not only our people but also the people the world. There is no doubt that Doctors has played an important and immense role in order to flatten the curve and they are still on the way to fight with this pandemic. Many of them have sacrificed their lives for the sake of saving our lives. As far as medical equipments are concerned however this made impediments for many Doctors in order to continue their services. The good news for Pakistan is that the Pakistani doctor Zia Ullah Khan Dawar receives a medal of recognition in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on July 9, 2020. There was also some rumors and conspiracy theories in Pakistan regarding Doctors, they are killing people for the sake of getting more funds from abroad nobody knows what reality is without knowing any prove we cannot say anything. But if that was the actual case then till now why there are just around six thousand people have died?

As covid-19 has affected over all the sphere of life, tourism is one of them which has been badly affected by the end of January 2020. The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has alerted that “the COVID-19 pandemic could lead to a loss of $ 300-500 billion in tourism receipts globally”. Tourism is one of the global economic sector by imposing a lock down it has suffered severely. Pakistani restaurants were closed hotels were closed, as well as in major cities hotels were converted into quarantine centers for those people who returned from abroad. The economy of Pakistan which is already going on in crisis has suffered a lot by shutting down all the tourism sites.

Pandemic has exposed many flaws not just in Pakistan but also in the developed countries of the world. Covid-19 has proved that there could be a war which might not be fought through nuclear weapons but through best medical services and sufficient health care system. I think this is the time when all leaders of all countries need to think about the health system because according to a report of the Stockholm international peace institute the total world military expenditure has risen to $1,823 billion in 2018. Represented an increase of 2.6 percent from the previous year.
