A Saddening Truth
(Afreen Fatima Jaffery, Karachi)
Parents are the most
precious gems we are bestowed upon with by our creator. Among them the most
patient, strong and the most fragile character is of our mother’s. The role she
plays in her child's life is noteworthy. Our mothers keep themselves preoccupied
with household chores and in looking after the basic necessities of her child
and struggles day and night to meet up with all those needs.
Our mothers prefer sleepless nights over comforting slumbers. Their first
priority is their children's happiness and for that purpose our both parents
make plenty of sacrifices which are beyond our imaginations.
Unfortunately children with the passage of time tend to neglect their parents.
This is the worst gift of this era. Nowadays due to rapid advancement and
modernization, values and norms have also changed. With a busy lifestyle, be it
studies or work children don’t have much time to spend with their parents, even
if they are living under the same roof. This leaves a deep scar on the our
mother's heart, sometimes she doesn't express it and keep trying to convince
herself that she has got to deal with her loneliness for the sake of her child's
successful career.
Empty is the right word for parents with faraway children. The conditions are
worsening so badly that some children get so fed up of their parent’s presence
in their surroundings that they drop them to old homes. They treat those mothers
this way who gave up their everything just to bring the smiles on their child’s
face.
“There were different sessions of fights in our house with my son’s wife”,says
Ahsan’s mother, currently a resident in an old home. She further said that
everyday she keeps waiting that one day her son will show up to take her home
back.
Such situations in the society makes one wonder that how can the children’s of
such mothers living in an old homes, be so insensitive. They are so obnoxious
that they never give a second thought to the pathetic and irrational decision of
sending there.By doing this they only runaway from their responsibilities. Such
ruthless acts make one wonder how these selfish people will face their creator
in the hereafter.
In today’s era when the extended family system has been taken over by the
nuclear family, it is revealed that its difficult for some parents to accept
change in their children’s lives because they are emotionally dependant upon
them and expect their greater attention.
“He could have stayed, but America was always on his mind, says Samad’s parents.
They further told,” Old age has its own disadvantages. We see our son on Eid or
on weekends when he and his wife needs a babysitter for our grandson. This is
not I hoped my future would be and that is why we feel empty from inside.”
It is such a distressing fact but the problem is increasing on daily basis
within our society. Those who still have their parents with them must cherish and
enjoy each and every moment of life with them because you never know when
they’ll leave you. Ask those who crave for being with their parents just for
once, then you will realize that how lucky you are to have these two most
wonderful gems on the earth.
