Avoidable Consumption
(Syed Manazir-ul-Haq, karachi)
There are three economic
variables – Consumption – Investment – and Saving and if equilibrium is kept
amongst them economy is progressive otherwise it regressive especially excessive
consumption deteriorates the economy and brings plight upon people. We should
analyze our way of living and way of consumption as we have become Routinist
means we do work under routine. For example if we do not feel hunger we
certainly take lunch as it is lunch hour and under routine we take lunch not on
appetite. I mean if we do not feel appetite we should not take lunch and give it
because it will benefit to our body, soul and brain if we deeply examine the
benefit of fasting. If we give up our routine, outdated and fruitless attitudes
and follow reformed approach in each activity whether it is related to soul,
body and brain or whether it is related to social, ethical and religious or
whether it is related to consumption, investment and savings we can orientate
the fortune of our country and under the reformed approach our country will soon
become the super-power by all means of the world by blessing of Allah.
Moreover we should also analyze the law of nature which tells us that as we sow
so shall we reap. The Holy Quran says: “All plights and troubles which come upon
human beings are the consequences of their deeds and all blessings and lucky
things are towards Allah.” If we adopt the attitude of waste the nature will
adopt the attitude of haste. Therefore we should not become enemy to ourselves
and follow the directions and instructions of Allah and His Prophet who firmly
instructed us to follow the moderate way and control our illicit desires by way
of patient and prayers.
According to World Wide Fund for Nature - WWF’s Living Planet report the earth
resources are being depleted so swiftly that there is a menace of deadly
starvation and grave shortage of drinking water. To overcome this emerging
starvation disaster we shall have to reduce our consumption globally otherwise
mankind may fall into dell of appetite because human wants are unlimited and
natural resources are limited therefore if we want to feed our body, soul and
brain properly we will have to follow the instructions of Allah and His Prophet.
Furthermore to save the earth from starvation we shall have to quit wastage by
all means – eat without appetite and to lead lavishly life will come under
wastage. It is pertinent to mention that according to “Hikmat” two times meals
(morning and evening) are better for health instead of three times. If all the
human beings of the world who are brain-workers not physical workers give up
their noon meal million tons foods will spare and their prices will fall
drastically according to law of Economics. To feed the hunger people and to
eradicate poverty I appeal to the entire intellectual, doctors, Hakims,
religious scholars, teachers, trainers and other segments of societies as well
as federal and provincial governments to make their valuable voice in favor of
two times meals especially for brain-workers. By avoiding needless eating and
wastage we shall promote ethical values i.e. patient, discipline, sacrifice,
brotherhood and devotion also remain far off from many kind of diseases as
fasting maintains health.
