In a package that can be described as the New Year’s gift, the government has approved a 35 per cent raise in the salary and allowances of officers in management positions.

An order notifying that the decision will go into effect from Jan 1 has already been issued after approval by the prime minister.

The last revision in the pay packages of such officers was made in April of 2007.

Their colleagues in basic pay scales from 20 to 22 have been given a raise of more than 150 per cent in the federal budgets presented by the PPP-led coalition government.

The basic salary for MP-1 scale has now been fixed at Rs263,000 per month, up by Rs68,000 per month from Rs195,000. The maximum salary for MP-1 officers has been fixed at Rs324,000 per month.

The maximum house rent ceiling for MP-1 officers has been increased from Rs105,000 to Rs142,000 per month. The utilities allowance has been raised from Rs12,000 to Rs16,200 per month.

Other perks like medical facilities, traveling and daily allowances, leave encashment and gratuity for all MP officers will remain unchanged.

The maximum salary including house rent and utilities allowances for officers in MP-1 scale has now been fixed at Rs482,200 per month, in addition to Rs95,910 per month cash payment instead of provision of official car.

Thus, the total salary before tax will work out at Rs578,110 per month. They were earlier entitled to a chauffeur-driven car maintained at government expense for official and private use along with fixed petrol consumption.

Before tax salary package of officers in MP-II has now been fixed at a maximum of Rs372,230 per month. The basic pay for MP-II officers has been increased to Rs176,000 per month from Rs130,400 per month.

Their house rent ceiling has been increased from Rs81,500 per month to Rs110,000 per month while utilities allowance has been increased from Rs6,500 to Rs8,800 per month.

They have been offered Rs77,430 per month as transport facility instead of official cars.

Similarly, pre-tax salary package of officers in MP-III has been fixed at Rs224,560 per month, including transport facility. The maximum basic salary of officers in this scale has been fixed at Rs110,000 per month instead of Rs81,500.
