In literary sense, fashion
means current trend or style but this term varies from country to country.
People of our own great country enjoy adopting other cultures, languages and
trends. Basically our true identity is not Pakistani; instead copiers will be
appropriate word and we are proud of it because copying is not an easy task as
it requires observation and evaluation and for it we need hard work. Normally we
run away from the word “hard work”. The name of any independent state indicate
integrity, sovereignty and independence but unfortunately we always show
ourselves as weak, dependent and complex nation.
In Pakistan, fashion is defined as something weird, unusual, glamorous, vulgar
and exposing. India is our greatest enemy but it is our pious source of
inspiration for fashion. If anyone asked from our youth about Pakistan, India
relations, they will give aggressive remarks, they feel ashamed when India
defeat our cricket team but we never feel anything in following the paths of
Indian fashion industry.
So hats off to duality of our nation. The interesting fact is that India is our
neighbor. We have rights on them and neighbors are always there to serve and
help so why we go to any other area.
The word fashion and youngsters have a strong connection but it’s unfair to
exclude old or aged people from it. They are not active and energetic like
youngsters so what, “Akhir Dil tu Jawan Hai na” if we want to see the “Jawani”
of old ladies then the best example is the marriages. Marriages provide best
opportunity in adopting any kind of fashion which they could not do in their
normal lives. “Shadiyon me dil khol kr hasreetein puri hoti hain”, the aged
ladies wearing deep backless necks, heavy jewelry, dark makeup, dyed hair and
sharp shocking colors. After seeing such ridiculous fashion who says our country
is poor and “yahan logo ko khane ko ni milta”. In marriages women used to eat
that food also which they leave in past in order to maintain their figures.
Fat ladies wearing fitting and sharp colors look like jokers. This Urdu phase
suited well in such situation, “Bohri Godri, Laal Lagaam”. They blindly follow
the fashion without seeing their complexion and physique. One more common and
stupid trend is wearing pure white clothes on dark complexion. It reminded me of
an Indian song, “Gore Gore Mukhre pe Kaala Kaala Chasma”. For such copiers
lyrics of the song may be reversed. Boys wear chains, ear rings and going to
saloon for facial, make up, threading and plucking. Of course these are not
healthy trends. Youngsters should not waste their precious time in such
activities whose end result is nothing but wastage of time and money. Every
picture has two sides, so another angle of it is that such adopters provide us
entertainment all the time. Why we wait to switch on the TV or Radio for
enjoyment and laughter when they tinkle like ants on every street corner.
The models in the fashion industry look like skeletons walking on the ramps. The
dark make-up and lipstick, black nail polish, broad eye liner and hair is like a
bird’s nest. Those creatures reminded me of witches. After watching fashion
shows, we need not to watch horror movies. Mother used to narrate stories to
kids about ghosts but now with the modern world and changing time, mothers stop
their kids by saying sleep or don’t do that otherwise “ Kaale aur bare nakhanooo
wali anty aa ajye giii”. Excessive and stupid fashion is dangerous for us but it
also giving benefits to mothers of naughty kids.
