Yesterday, I read an article
about child trafficking in a magazine. Child trafficking in Pakistan has two
major types. First, female children are brought from rural areas of the country
to cities where they are engaged as domestic workers, bonded labourers and sex
workers. Pakistan is also a transit route for young girls from East Asian
countries and Bangladesh, who are sent to the Middle East and they are sexually
exploited there.
A number of child trafficking cases were reported from different parts of the
country in 2015. These cases point out the sorry state of affairs regarding
child protection in the country. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, police reported 667 of
adult and 27 cases of child trafficking until October 2015, whereas 1,415 cases
of “crimes against person” were reported in Balochistan by the end of June 2015.
The government should take stringent measures to check this social evil in
society.
