The power of the pen is
undeniable; the power to influence people's actions through writing requires a
dedication and passion for a cause. Throughout history, one can see in many
occasions how a writer not only got his message across to the public, but also
made the public realize their ignorance and change the way they thought. These
writings, may it be through literature, pictures, pamphlets, magazine articles,
newspapers, or any other form of media influenced society in a way of appealing
to willing audiences and supporters. Whether the media was propaganda, biased,
opinion, or merely truth, it effected history as much, if not even more so than
today. Although some might say that not all writers have impacted a great deal
of people in American history, even the minorities are significant; each
'minority' or 'small influence' is important because, after all, the parts make
up the whole no matter how small the parts are. Thomas Paine was a revolutionary
