Indian Shows

(Rabia Hashim, Karachi)

‘Aman ki Asha’, this is one of the most heard phrases these days which is used to highlight and bridge the gap between IndoPak relationships. This is a good effort to build positive relationship between the two nations. We have seen different TV shows in this regard like children singing competition ‘Chotay Ustaad’ and movie ‘Virsa’. But my topic of debate is not Aman ki Asha. I want to highlight the promotion of other TV shows of Indian TV channels.

Almost all of our entertainment channels are on airing the different talk shows, reality shows and award functions of India which is straightforward promotion of their TV shows. I am not against the Aman ki Asha but there are some basic reasons that made me to write about this issue. First of all, by promoting their TV shows, we are actually neglecting our TV programs by giving the on air time to these shows on regular basis. We can use this time to on air our own shows. Believe me there is much more talent in Pakistan as compared to India.

Another reason is, no doubt India and Pakistan were once a united country and shared many cultural values, but now the scenario has been changed. Showing their TV shows on our TV channels is promoting their culture which is not at all in favor of our cultural values. Their dressing, language, gestures, living style and above all their prayers, all this is unacceptable in our society. Moreover, our own dramas are following their living and dressing styles. You can easily watch our drama actresses wearing Sarees in their roles which are not the requirement of their role.

The third reason is not very much impressive but somehow it means a lot for me. The Indian media never show our programs on their TV channels just because they do not want to, even if the Indians want to watch our programs. So, if they are anti to our programs then why are we encouraging their different TV shows in Pakistan? I think our people should encourage our dramas and other shows rather then watching Khatron Kay Khiladi and boring shows like Big Boss that are not at all entertaining.
