حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ : كَيْفَ تَسْأَلُونَ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ عَنْ شَيْءٍ وَكِتَابُكُمُ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَحْدَثُ تَقْرَءُونَهُ مَحْضًا لَمْ يُشَبْ ؟ وَقَدْ حَدَّثَكُمْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ بَدَّلُوا كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَغَيَّرُوهُ وَكَتَبُوا بِأَيْدِيهِمُ الْكِتَابَ ، وَقَالُوا هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ لِيَشْتَرُوا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلا سورة البقرة آية 79 أَلَا يَنْهَاكُمْ مَا جَاءَكُمْ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ عَنْ مَسْأَلَتِهِمْ ؟ لَا وَاللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْنَا مِنْهُمْ رَجُلًا يَسْأَلُكُمْ عَنِ الَّذِي أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے ابراہیم بن سعد نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم کو ابن شہاب نے خبر دی، انہیں عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ بن عتبہ نے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ   تم اہل کتاب سے کسی چیز کے بارے میں کیوں پوچھتے ہو جب کہ تمہاری کتاب جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر نازل ہوئی وہ تازہ بھی ہے اور محفوظ بھی اور تمہیں اس نے بتا بھی دیا کہ اہل کتاب نے اپنا دین بدل ڈالا اور اللہ کی کتاب میں تبدیلی کر دی اور اسے اپنے ہاتھ سے از خود بنا کر لکھا اور کہا کہ یہ اللہ کی طرف سے ہے تاکہ اس کے ذریعہ دنیا کا تھوڑا سا مال کما لیں۔ تمہارے پاس ( قرآن و حدیث کا ) جو علم ہے وہ تمہیں ان سے پوچھنے سے منع کرتا ہے۔ واللہ! میں تو نہیں دیکھتا کہ اہل کتاب میں سے کوئی تم سے اس کے بارے میں پوچھتا ہو جو تم پر نازل کیا گیا ہو۔

English Translation

Narrated Ubaidullah: Ibn `Abbas said, Why do you ask the people of the scripture about anything while your Book (Qur'an) which has been revealed to Allah's Apostle is newer and the latest? You read it pure, undistorted and unchanged, and Allah has told you that the people of the scripture (Jews and Christians) changed their scripture and distorted it, and wrote the scripture with their own hands and said, 'It is from Allah,' to sell it for a little gain. Does not the knowledge which has come to you prevent you from asking them about anything? No, by Allah, we have never seen any man from them asking you regarding what has been revealed to you!
