Ali reported that Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) said to him: Say, O Allah, direct me to the right path and make me adhere to the straight path, and when you make a mention of right guidance, keep in mind the right path and when you consider of the straight (path), keep in mind the straightness of the arrow.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَاصِمَ بْنَ كُلَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ قَالَ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْ اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي وَسَدِّدْنِي وَاذْكُرْ بِالْهُدَى هِدَايَتَكَ الطَّرِيقَ وَالسَّدَادِ سَدَادَ السَّهْمِ

  ابوکریب محمد بن علاء نے ہمیں حدیث بیان کی ، انہوں نے کہا : ہمیں ( عبداللہ ) بن ادریس نے حدیث بیان کی ، انہوں نے کہا : میں عاصم بن کلیب سے سنا ، انہوں نے ابوبردہ سے اور انہوں نے حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی ، کہا : رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھ سے فرمایا : " ( دعا کرتے ہوئے یہ ) کہو : اے اللہ! مجھے ہدایت دے اور مجھے سیدھے راستے پر چلا ، اور ( اے علی! ) ہدایت ( کا نام لیتے ہوئے اس ) سے صحیح راستے پر چلنے کو ذہن میں رکھو اور سیدھا رہنے سے تیری جیسی سدھائی مراد کو ( مانگتے ہوئے ہدایت اور صواب کا کمال طلب کرو ۔ ) "
