Sunan Abu Dawood 1008 - Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيِ الْعَشِيِّ الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى خَشَبَةٍ فِي مُقَدَّمِ الْمَسْجِدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَيْهِمَا إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الْأُخْرَى يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْغَضَبُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ خَرَجَ سَرْعَانُ النَّاسِ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ قُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ قُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَفِي النَّاسِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعُمَرُ فَهَابَاهُ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَمِّيهِ:‏‏‏‏ ذَا الْيَدَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَسِيتَ أَمْ قُصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ ؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ أَنْسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ تُقْصَرِ الصَّلَاةُ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْقَوْمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ ؟ فَأَوْمَئُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَيْ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ فَرَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى مَقَامِهِ فَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْبَاقِيَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَفَعَ وَكَبَّرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَفَعَ وَكَبَّرَ . قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَقِيلَ لِمُحَمَّدٍ:‏‏‏‏ سَلَّمَ فِي السَّهْوِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ أَحْفَظْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَكِنْ نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ.

Urdu Translation

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں شام کی دونوں یعنی ظہر اور عصر میں سے کوئی نماز پڑھائی مگر صرف دو رکعتیں پڑھا کر آپ نے سلام پھیر دیا، پھر مسجد کے اگلے حصہ میں لگی ہوئی ایک لکڑی کے پاس اٹھ کر گئے اور اپنے دونوں ہاتھوں کو ایک دوسرے پر رکھ کر لکڑی پر رکھا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے چہرے پر غصہ کا اثر ظاہر ہو رہا تھا، پھر جلد باز لوگ یہ کہتے ہوئے نکل گئے کہ نماز کم کر دی گئی ہے، نماز کم کر دی گئی ہے، لوگوں میں ابوبکر اور عمر رضی اللہ عنہما بھی موجود تھے لیکن وہ دونوں آپ سے ( اس سلسلہ میں ) بات کرنے سے ڈرے، پھر ایک شخص کھڑا ہوا جسے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ذوالیدین کہا کرتے تھے، اس نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! کیا آپ بھول گئے ہیں یا نماز کم کر دی گئی ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نہ میں بھولا ہوں، نہ ہی نماز کم کی گئی ہے ، اس شخص نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! آپ بھول گئے ہیں، پھر آپ لوگوں کی جانب متوجہ ہوئے اور ان سے پوچھا: کیا ذوالیدین سچ کہہ رہے ہیں؟ ، لوگوں نے اشارہ سے کہا: ہاں ایسا ہی ہے، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنی جگہ پر واپس آئے اور باقی دونوں رکعتیں پڑھائیں، پھر سلام پھیرا، اس کے بعد «الله أكبر» کہہ کر اپنے اور سجدوں کی طرح یا ان سے کچھ لمبا سجدہ کیا، پھر«الله أكبر» کہہ کر سجدے سے سر اٹھایا پھر «الله أكبر» کہہ کر اپنے اور سجدوں کی طرح یا ان سے کچھ لمبا دوسرا سجدہ کیا پھر «الله أكبر» کہہ کر اٹھے۔ راوی کہتے ہیں: تو محمد سے پوچھا گیا کہ کیا آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سجدہ سہو کے بعد پھر سلام پھیرا؟ انہوں نے کہا: ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مجھے یہ یاد نہیں، لیکن مجھے خبر ملی ہے کہ عمران بن حصین رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا ہے: آپ نے پھر سلام پھیرا۔

English Translation

Abu Hurairah said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم led us in one of the evening (Asha) prayers, noon or afternoon. He led us in two Rak’ahs and gave the salutation. He then got up going towards a piece of wood which was placed in the front part of the mosque. He placed his hands upon it, one on the other, looking from his face as if he were angry. The people came out hastily saying: the prayer has been shortened. Abu Bakr and Umar were among the people, but they were too afraid to speak to him. A man whom the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم would call “ the possessor of arms” (Dhu al-Yadain) stood up (asking him): Have you forgotten. The Messenger of Allah, or has the prayer been shortened? He said: I have neither forgotten nor has it been shortened. He said: Messenger of Allah, you have forgotten. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم turned towards the people and asked: did the possessor of arms speak the truth? They made a sign, that is, yes. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم returned to his place and prayed the remaining two Rak’ahs, then gave the salutation; he then uttered the takbir and prostrated himself as usual or prolonged. He then raised his head and uttered the takbir; then he uttered the takbir and made prostration as usual or made longer (prostration). Then he raised his head his and uttered the takbir (Allah is most great). The narrator Muhammad was asked: Did he give the salutation (while prostrating) dueto forgetfulness? He said: I do not remember it from Abu Hurairah. But we Are sure that Imran bin Husain (in his version) said; he then gave the salutation.
