It was narrated that Ka'b bin 'Ujrah said: The Messenger of Allah mentioned a Fitnah (tribulation) that had drawn nigh. Then a man passed by with his head covered. The Messenger of Allah said: 'On that day, this man will be following right guidance.' I leapt up and took hold of 'Uthman's arms, then I turned to face the Messenger of Allah and said: 'This man?' He said: 'This man.'

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فِتْنَةً فَقَرَّبَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ مُقَنَّعٌ رَأْسُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْهُدَى ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَوَثَبْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَخَذْتُ بِضَبْعَيْ عُثْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا؟ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا .

کعب بن عجرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک فتنہ کا ذکر کیا کہ وہ جلد ظاہر ہو گا، اسی درمیان ایک شخص اپنا سر منہ چھپائے ہوئے گزرا تو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: یہ شخص ان دنوں ہدایت پر ہو گا ، کعب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: میں تیزی سے اٹھا، اور عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے دونوں کندھے پکڑ لیے، پھر میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی جانب رخ کر کے کہا: کیا یہی ہیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ہاں یہی ہیں ( جو ہدایت پر ہوں گے ) ۱؎۔
