‘Uthman said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘Do you think that if there was a river in the courtyard of anyone of you, and he bathed in it five times each day, would there be any dirt left on him?’ They said: ‘(There would be) nothing.’ He said: ‘Prayer takes away sins like water takes away dirt.’”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ أَخِي ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي صَالِحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي فَرْوَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَامِرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ أَخْبَرَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ أَبَانَ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَعُثْمَانُ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ كَانَ بِفِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ نَهْرٌ يَجْرِي يَغْتَسِلُ فِيهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا كَانَ يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ؟ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا شَيْءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ تُذْهِبُ الذُّنُوبَ كَمَا يُذْهِبُ الْمَاءُ الدَّرَنَ .

عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: اگر تم میں سے کسی کے آنگن میں نہر بہہ رہی ہو جس میں وہ ہر روز پانچ مرتبہ غسل کرے، تو کیا اس کے بدن پہ کچھ میل کچیل باقی رہ جائے گا؟ لوگوں نے کہا: کچھ نہیں، تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: نماز گناہوں کو ایسے ہی ختم کر دیتی ہے جس طرح پانی میل کچیل کو ختم کر دیتا ہے ۔
