It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: “Ja’far bin Abu Talib used to like the poor; he would sit with them and talk to them, and they would talk to him. And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) gave him the Kunyah of Abul-Masakin (Father of the Poor).”

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْكِنْدِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيُّ أَبُو يَحْيَى،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ أَبُو إِسْحَاق الْمَخْزُومِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ،‏‏‏‏ يُحِبُّ الْمَسَاكِينَ وَيَجْلِسُ إِلَيْهِمْ،‏‏‏‏ وَيُحَدِّثُهُمْ وَيُحَدِّثُونَهُ،‏‏‏‏ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَكْنِيهِ:‏‏‏‏ أَبَا الْمَسَاكِينِ .

ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   جعفر بن ابی طالب رضی اللہ عنہ مسکینوں سے محبت کرتے تھے، ان کے ساتھ بیٹھتے، اور ان سے باتیں کیا کرتے تھے، اور وہ لوگ بھی ان سے باتیں کرتے تھے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان کی کنیت ابوالمساکین رکھی تھی۔
