Transportation -Much needed operations in metro cities

(Syed Hammad Hussain, )

Serving a population of over 200 million, the transportation system in Pakistan is still passing through developmental stages. It hasn’t yet achieved that much level of excellence and maturity as you see in the developed and more advanced nation states of the world, like the US, the UK, China, Japan, and Germany. Owing to various structural, developmental, management and organizational issues, the situation on the roads is getting worse. Traffic jams and fatal road accidents have become an oft-witnessed phenomenon across the majority of the roads loaded with heavy traffic. Such unfortunate incidents not only entail the loss of precious public property, but also claim the lives of many innocent citizens.

With the increasing population the problem of traffic control has become very acute in almost all the big cities in Pakistan. The increase in traffic has also increased the number of traffic accidents and our roads are growing dangerous day by day. Unfortunately, we have little traffic sense and perhaps no respect for the traffic rules.

No doubt, bad roads and high speed driving are the main causes of traffic accidents Traffic problem in Pakistan is getting worse with every coming day, especially in big cities like Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta, Peshawar and Hyderabad. Government is doing little efforts to avoid traffic jams and other traffic problems in Pakistan. The high density of vehicles in metros is also responsible for the rise in the number of road accidents and traffic jams.

In recent past we witness accidents in which many innocents lost their lives just because of Illiterate drivers, unfamiliar to the conditions of metro cities along with no fear of law and traffic police. Most of the incidents occurred in central and industrial areas (Korangi, S.I.T.E, FB Area , North Area) along with main roads namely Shahra e Faisal, super highway, national highway ,MA Jinnah & other.

As a nation we are fighting against terrorism since last decades and marked significant achievements in eliminating terrorism from Pakistan and are determined to fight till last in our national interest to provide safe and secure Pakistan to our future generations.

For traffic issues we need commitment of national level to elimination rough, irresponsible driving and drivers from our roads to provide safe and discipline traffic in Pakistan and especially in metropolitan city of 30 million citizen and the economic hub Karachi along with Lahore, Faisalabad and other big cities with population of more than million.

The solution to this issue is to address the root causes ,Starting from traffic laws education for masses from primary level till graduation and post graduation compulsory and highlighting this as on priority to create a sense of awareness towards the intensity of this issue. Lack of Infrastructure is one of the biggest problem with our national transportation mechanism, insufficient infrastructure which falls very short of meeting the growing demands of the ever increasing traffic pool on the roads The only solution is to take immediate measures for the development of additional infrastructure.

Most importantly enforcement of traffic laws strictly, Lunching a grand operation against drivers and owners of heavy traffic including (Trucks , tankers ,containers and especially Buses public transports ) to ensure licenses and proper mental ,health check-up ,Also ensure that during rush hours no heavy vehicles are allowed on roads which will definitely result in minimizing the accidents and lower will be the lost of lives.

Its a continues process to educated generations for safe and secure Pakistan, which needs a continues efforts towards betterment and elimination of incidents across the country. Students, Social welfare youth, religious and political organizations & society must have to take up this issues as soon as possible to avoid a disaster of traffic problems.
