Sexual harassment has become
one of the most common issue in Pakistan. With each coming day we see many news
of sexual harassment in the newspaper, news-channel and social media. Now the
question is who is behind such thing? Whether there is a certain group who do
this kind of things and make videos and sell them to other organizations for
some money or they do it for their own pleasure? Well in both cases it is the
worst thing a society can expect. Unfortunately, we live in a country where 80%
of women face sexual harassment on a daily basis. With this percentage the
question arises on the rights of the women whether we are providing them those
basic rights of protection? According to section 509 of Pakistan criminal code,
the penalty of sexual harassment is the fine of RS.500,000 and prison up to 3
years. But still some people do such acts of harassment in the society openly
and our law enforcing agencies looks miserable in stopping it. We see people
openly harassing in the public, we will have to do something, or otherwise this
thing will grow and grow and will eat our society like a termite. Our law
enforcing agencies will have to work by day and night to stop this curse. So our
children, women can freely and easily go to their educational institutions,
working place and markets easily without having any fear of this curse. Women
and children are the backbone of our society, they contribute to our national
mainstream, they are the backbone of Pakistan, so we will have to secure their
rights and protect them in order to provide them the better future and to free
the society from this curse.
The change I want to see is a start-up environment where everyone, regardless of
gender and background, feels welcome and safe; where sexual harassment or
discrimination will not impede great talent from producing great impact-
