The Different cultures of the world and we……?

(Manzoor Hussain Rajper, Karachi.)

People round the world celebrate the New Year with their own values. We also experienced it in bit same manner. The unruly mob violated traffic rules, and started firings and celebrations two hours earlier than 12 am. What should we call this? Welcoming 2011 or bidding farewell to 2010? Perhaps both…….

Well, the thunder of guns and other instruments continued almost an hour with minor breaks till 1 am. The night passed and most people forgot to see the sun of New Year. This is due to the valid reason that the people who celebrated almost all the night could not be able to wake up when the sun rose. In my opinion, it was better to see the rising sun than seeing the dark night. Why don’t people celebrate at an early morning, the rising sun and shining glimpses than looking at dark night? We do what we want to do? If we see the dark night and welcome it, it may bring darkness. And if we wake up and welcome the rising bright sun it may be leading to brightness. Well, everyone should consider what to do.

It was 10 o’clock morning in Pakistan and the New Year came in US right after 10 hours in Pakistan. Almost all the famous News channels showed the style of celebrations in US. I wondered that what the need to show this was. Why should we watch what others do? They have different culture and different values. You must have realized that their cultures are not operative here. However, the attack of glamour through media is so severe. The most astonishing thing was that, at one side at the same time these channels were showing the drone attacks of US on tribal areas of Pakistan. And at another side, these channels showed the pauses of those who have different values and different cultures. And the difference is threatening in the manner that most of the things in their culture are so offensive in our values. But the bold channels showed all the things without keeping in mind the gender variations, the age variations. My humble advice to those channels is that, please think a bit and show what we need, not what we don’t.
