Imaam suyyuti rahimahullah (al-mutawaffa 911 hijree year) said:
In winter a lot of people, on the name of milaad-e-I'sa (علیہ السلام) held celebrations. In these nights they do a lot of munkar (rejected) acts. Like burning fire, preparing different types of food, buying candles etc etc, Therefore, celebrating Milaad yearly is a deen of Christians. There is no asal (origin) of it in Islam. In era of salaf (previous pious predecessors) there is no mention about it. Rather it has been recieved from Christians and due to winter (they) started burning fire as well.

Haafiz Suyyuti (رحمه الله) al-mutawaffa 911 writes in another place:
It is not appropriate for any Muslim to imitate the I'id of Yahood, Kuffaar, non-Arabic people, and misguided Arabs. Like Allaah ta'lah said to His prophet Muhammad kareem
Translation: Then We have put you (O Muhammad SAW) on a plain way of (Our) commandment [like the one which We commanded Our Messengers before you (i.e. legal ways and laws of the Islamic Monotheism)]. So follow you that (Islamic Monotheism and its laws), and follow not the desires of those who know not. [Tafsir At-Tabari Vol. 25, Page 146].
Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.) are Auliya' (protectors, helpers, etc.) to one another, but Allah is the Wali (Helper, Protector, etc.) of the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2).
(surah al-jaathiyah 45 ayah 18-19)
The people who are un aware, it means their baatil (false) cultural customs, therefore the person who knows must not trust in the desires of juhulah. As Allaah ta'lah said to His nabi kareem
Translation: Verily, if you follow their desires after that which you have received of knowledge (from Allah), then indeed you will be one of the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, etc.).
(ref: surah al-baqarah 2 ayah: 145)
When the khitaab (address) of Allaah subhanhu wa ta'lah to nabi kareem (صلي الله عليه وسلم) is so severe, then how much the situation be for an ummati who is blindly following ignorant ones and kuffaar would be? Who are following kuffaar and their ways and do the actions/deeds which Allaah has not allowed it and even follow the sha'aar (values) of them (kuffaar). (You) can find a lot of scholars with superficial knowledge, who may not be familiar with true scene of knowledge and imitate the kuffaar (in their deeds).
