The Glow of Light
(Dr. Shakira Nandini, Karachi)
Shining eyes reveal the face of a small child. This child, safely nestled in his mother’s embrace, radiates innocence and joy. As he squirms in her gentle arms, the birds begin to chirp, and the leaves on the trees start to flutter, as if the world itself has joined in this moment of happiness.
Waves of light flow from within the woman, reflecting the beauty of the world in her eyes. The child laughs and smiles, and everyone is ready to rush toward him. A softness comes to the mother’s lips, as if she is humming a tune of joy.
Then, as he reaches out toward her, he suddenly turns back and hides in his mother’s chest. This moment stops time. The mother hurriedly crosses the street, as if a wall is collapsing in her heart. Shakira Nandani’s eyes capture this scene in her heart, and she begins to fill it with deep darkness.
This moment, this glow, this life—all come together to form a story overflowing with feelings of love and protection.
