Unsafe Drinking Water in Islamabad and Rawalpindi
(Ghazalas Consultancy, Suadi Arab)
A news report in almost all newspapers of the country on July 31st 2013 has
created panic in minds of residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The news report
revealed that 67 water filtration plants out a total number of 86 of twin cities
are supplying unsafe drinking water. The report was further authenticated by the
specialized laboratory namely PCRWR of Islamabad. The report further added that
unsafe drinking water was being used by residents of most of the residential
sectors of Islamabad. However, rich people especially those of elite classes are
happy to use mineral water as they treat themselves above all. Areas of
Rawalpindi which were mentioned in the report are Dhok Kala Khan, Dhok Paracha,
Dhok Kashmirian, Sadiqabad, 6th Road, Banni Chawk, various blocks of the
Satellite Town, Dhok Ratta, Mohnpura, Dariya Abad, Gawalmandi, Rawal Chawk,
Rahimabad, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Bagh Sardaran and Saidpur Road. It is very
strange that elected representatives of both the cities have not taken any
action in this regard. Rawalpindi has representation of Imran Khan, Shaikh
Rasheed whereas Islamabad is represented by Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry while Javed
Hashmi left his voters and preferred to represent Multan in the National
Assembly. As far as provincial assembly is concerned its seats have been
occupied by either PML(N) or PTI.
Now all elected representatives of twin cities are required pay their full
attention to their voters who are suffering from the fear of unsafe drinking
water. Chief Justice of Pakistan who is famous for Suo Moto Notices for the
interest of the general public. He is also requested to kindly intervene in this
serious situation with a Suo Moto. The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has also a
fame of feeling the sentiments and problems of the people. He should come
forward as well.
