Social media and our youth

In this modern world we know that media is fourth pillar of a democratic state. Now a days most effective means of media is social media like Facebook, twitter, Myspace etc. these social media sites are playing an important role in making the mindsets of our society, specially youth. Most of our youth is using social media to communicate each other. Basic reason of the popularity of these sites is that people, especially youth like to interacteach other and love to share stories, experiences and ideas...But these sites are mostly used in negative ways.

Our youth is spending their lots of time on social media sites. Dangerous thing about these sites is that people share offensive material on these sites and also share their personnel information. Black mailers use this shared information to trap the innocent people. As we say that ‘face is the index of mind’, we can say that “Facebook is the index of one’s life”. Because people are updating their Facebookby every minute.

Secondly, these sites carry no ethical or immoral stuff. This type of stuff sometimes becomes the cause damage one’s personality, especially teenagers.

By using these sites, our youth is wasting its precious time. Because mostly youngsters do not use social media productively.

Despite of all negative aspects, these sites also have some positive impacts. We can use get information from the whole world. Social sites are playing an important role for film, fashion and especially for advertising industry. Businessmen are using for business purpose also.

But our youth use it mostly for entertainment purpose. Youngsters make create profiles to make others fool.

Beside all these things, we really have to think that how to use social media in positive and productive way. As we know that everything has positive and negative effect in our lives. We should educate our youngsters to use these sites in productive ways. Parents should keep on check the activities of their children. In this way we can bring a positive and productive change in attitudes of our youngsters.

Simon Mainwaring a social specialist and blogger said that “ like all technologies social media is neutral but is best put to work in service of building a better world”.

As a citizen of an under develop country Pakistan, we should not waste our time on these non productive activities. If we want to use productive things.
