How Industrial setup is causing environmental damages towards the residential areas which leads to lethal health concerns

(Prof. Wasif Ali Waseer, )

Since the Industrial revolution began, our societal setup faces different situational arenas that lead us towards the hight of advancements, it is said that, the era of industrialization became the prior content towards the globalization where industries play their vital role to enhance the economic burst all over the world, but with all these industrial and technological acceleration, our society also gets environmental sufferings that are the results of such rapid industrial blare. Industrialization is the process that extensively uses resources to enhance human productivity. Due to industrialization surplus increases both in agriculture and in industry. The reasons behind this migration are the facilities that are available in cities like better health, education, transportation and better economic opportunities. According to the report “World Urbanization Prospect” by United Nations in 2014, globally almost 54 % of the world’s population living in urban area but it was 30 percent in 1950’s. Now the global rural population is about 3.4 billion and it’s expected that by 2050 it will decrease to 3.2 billion. The most urbanized region of the world includes northern America 82%, Latin America 80% Caribbean 80% and Europe 73% but on the other side Asia and Africa have 40% and 48% rural population respectively. Although urbanization provide many facilities and opportunities to the people to live better life but on the other side there are many problems that people are facing like air and water pollution that are increasing day by day due to industries that are located near residential and commercial areas. Industrial area is difficult to live because of the health problems that are results from industrial waste. Air pollution problems are generally associated with the arrival of the industrial revolution.Over 3.5 million people die each year from outdoor air pollution. Between 2005 and 2010, the death rate rose by 4% worldwide. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that around 7 million premature deaths resulted from air pollution in 2012. The air pollution can cause Causes Cancer, Lung diseases, Cystic fibrosis and Cardiovascular disease or etc.Consequences of industrialization in contemporary society is having its long-lasting effect because of the extensive occupation of land that cause multiple ecological effects on the lives of residents that are living alone these industrial zones, It contaminates many sources of drinking water, releases unwanted toxins into the air and reduces the quality of soil that are highly devastating for living organs. Where Industrial goods are facilitating people through manufacturing multiple useful products that make our lives easier, on the other side these Industries are increasing our health issues through spreading certain types of industrial pollution by having no enough pathway or procedures to demolish there factory wastage. Pakistan is well known for its industrial setup especially in textile, rice and sugar products, these goods are exported in different parts of world like, central Asia, Middle east, Europe and Africa. In Pakistan, Industrial setup is extended very rapidly that is playing its part in the economic progress, along that process our industrial zones where these goods are produced, are dissemination many environmental diseases that affect the lives of residents at large scale. Cities where industries zones exits with in the residential zones, like in Pakistan, cities like Faisalabad and Karachi are facing intense environmental damages.
Certain Reasons that cause industrial pollution:
1. Having no strict policies for implementation towards industrial areas:
We are lacking the effective and permanent policies to overcome the ecological damages of industries, there is no one to take strong drive against the certain aspects of industrial pollution. The failure of proceeding industrial laws is also one of the strong reasons of increasing industrial pollution in the society.
2. Lack of proper Industrial planning:
It is the most fundamental unfortunate of our society that we perform any act without having proper planning, same is the case with the industrial growth, we do not have any set criteria to follow while construction of any factory, there is no geographical, locational and infrastructural boundaries to follow for running any industrial setup and these structural lacks leads to internal ecological failure and polluted the environment with both air and water pollution.
3. Due to usage of Antiquated machineries:
Some industries are still using archaic and obsolete machineries that is one of the reasons that leads to environmrntal pollution, because such tired technologies produce less goods and produce more material wastage, and to save financial Expenses, factory owners use these traditional technologies and increase the environmental dis-order.
4. Rapid increase in small scale industrial setups:
Due to globalization and to enhance economic needs, since last two decades the ratio of small scale factories are rapidly increased the level of industrial wastage, these small factories have no stricked criteria to follow that give them a free way to act by implementing there will that cause very jeopardous consequence on the society.
5. Having insufficient waste disposal system:
The biggest reason of increasing industrial pollution is the insufficient way to dispose industrial waste, most the factories that are located along the residential zones pass away the poisonous liquid in canals and rivers that effect the nearer population that receive different diseases through different direct and in-dirrect ways.
