Punjab E Buses Project
The Punjab E Buses Project is a major step by the Punjab government to promote clean and green public transport. This project brings electric buses to the streets of major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad. These e-buses are eco-friendly, reduce noise, and help lower air pollution levels. The Punjab E Buses Project also focuses on improving travel for students and working people by offering affordable and smooth rides. With modern features like air-conditioning, safety systems, and GPS tracking, these electric buses promise comfort and safety. This project supports the government's vision for a cleaner environment and better transportation system. The Punjab electric bus service will create jobs, reduce fuel use, and set a new example for green mobility across Pakistan.

The introduction of Punjab E-Buses Project under the direction of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is the start of a new era of changing transport system in the province. Emphasizing on renewable power source, advanced digital technology, and user comfort on the journey, such a project puts the electric buses as an avenue of green transportation in the city.
Pilot Launch in Lahore
It was introduced in February 2025 in the pilot stage, when 27 electric buses with a 21-kilometer route between Lahore Railway Station and Green Town started operating. These buses have an average passenger transport capacity of more than 17,000 people every day, and they provide a clean (free of pollution), comfortable and efficient travel facility. The successful pilot did not only alleviate the burden of the traffic, but also gave a symbol of a cleaner and quieter city.
Modern Amenities for Inclusive Travel
Every bus is perfectly planned to offer a comfort trip to customers with different interests, ages and groups. The buses also have Wi-Fi, USB charging outlets, GPS tracking and CCTV cameras making the process of travelling connective and safe. The service is accessible and inclusive: women-only sections, anti-slippery floors, and ramps to use wheelchairs. All this comes at a very economical price of only Rs. 20 per ride, which passengers enjoy; students, senior citizens and differently-abled are permitted to travel free-of-cost.
Supporting Infrastructure and Smart Systems
There are nine different charging stations located in Lahore to serve the electric fleet. There are also 42 smart bus stops designed, installed with solar-powered fans, drinking water systems, and security surveillance systems. Solar powered bus depot in Green Town is also being built so that the buses continue running without a hitch.
Expansion Across Punjab
Encouraged by the Lahore pilot's success, the Punjab Cabinet has approved a province-wide rollout of 1,500 electric buses.
- Phase 1 (by June 2025): 380 buses for Lahore and Gujranwala
- Future Phases: Expansion to cities including Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Bahawalpur, and more
A Smarter, Greener Tomorrow
This project is more than just a transit solution — it’s a step toward a cleaner and smarter future. With its commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility, and public ease, the Punjab E-Buses Project positions the province as a national leader in sustainable urban mobility.
