حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي لَأَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ بِمِنًى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِذْ لَقِيَهُ عُثْمَانُ فَاسْتَخْلَاهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمَّا رَأَى عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَنْ لَيْسَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لِي:‏‏‏‏ تَعَالَ يَا عَلْقَمَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجِئْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ عُثْمَانُ:‏‏‏‏ أَلَا نُزَوِّجُكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بِجَارِيَةٍ بِكْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَعَلَّهُ يَرْجِعُ إِلَيْكَ مِنْ نَفْسِكَ مَا كُنْتَ تَعْهَدُ ؟ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ:‏‏‏‏ لَئِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمُ الْبَاءَةَ فَلْيَتَزَوَّجْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنَّهُ أَغَضُّ لِلْبَصَرِ وَأَحْصَنُ لِلْفَرْجِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ مِنْكُمْ فَعَلَيْهِ بِالصَّوْمِ فَإِنَّهُ لَهُ وِجَاءٌ .

Urdu Translation

علقمہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ منیٰ میں چل رہا تھا کہ اچانک ان کی ملاقات عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ سے ہو گئی تو وہ ان کو لے کر خلوت میں گئے، جب عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے محسوس کیا کہ انہیں ( شادی کی ) ضرورت نہیں ہے تو مجھ سے کہا: علقمہ! آ جاؤ ۱؎ تو میں گیا تو عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ ۲؎ نے ان سے کہا: ابوعبدالرحمٰن! کیا ہم آپ کی شادی ایک کنواری لڑکی سے نہ کرا دیں، شاید آپ کی دیرینہ طاقت و نشاط واپس آ جائے۔ عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا: اگر آپ ایسی بات کہہ رہے ہیں تو میں تو اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے ہوئے سن چکا ہوں کہ تم میں سے جو شخص نکاح کی طاقت رکھتا ہو اسے نکاح کر لینا چاہیئے کیونکہ یہ نگاہ کو خوب پست رکھنے والی اور شرمگاہ کی خوب حفاظت کرنے والی چیز ہے اور جو تم میں سے اس کے اخراجات کی طاقت نہ رکھتا ہو تو اس پر روزہ ہے، یہ اس کی شہوت کے لیے توڑ ہو گا ۳؎ ۔

English Translation

Alqamah said “I was going with Abd Allaah bin Masud at Mina where Uthman met him and desired to have a talk with him in privacy”. When Abd Allaah (bin Masud) thought there was no need of privacy, he said to me “Come, Alqamah So I came (to him)”. Then Uthman said to him “Should we not marry you, Abu Abd Al Rahman to a virgin girl, so that the power you have lost may return to you?” Abd Allaah (bin Masud) said “If you say that, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say “ Those of you who can support a wife, should marry, for it keeps you from looking at strange women and preserve from unlawful intercourse, but those who cannot should devote themselves to fasting, for it is a means of suppressing sexual desire.
