It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] had a ring made of gold and he used to wear it with the stone (Fass) against his palm, and the people did likewise. Then he sat on the Minbar and said: I used to wear this ring and put its stone (Fass) on the inside. Then he threw it away and said: By Allah, I will never wear it again. And the people threw their rings away.

أَخْبَرَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ نَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اصْطَنَعَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ يَلْبَسُهُ فَجَعَلَ فَصَّهُ فِي بَاطِنِ كَفِّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَصَنَعَ النَّاسُ ثُمَّ إِنَّهُ جَلَسَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ فَنَزَعَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَجْعَلُ فَصَّهُ مِنْ دَاخِلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَمَى بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَاللَّهِ لَا أَلْبَسُهُ أَبَدًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ.

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سونے کی ایک انگوٹھی بنوائی، آپ اسے پہنتے تھے اور اس کا نگینہ ہتھیلی کی طرف رکھتے، تو لوگوں نے بھی ( انگوٹھیاں ) بنوائیں، پھر آپ منبر پر بیٹھے اور اسے اتار پھینکا اور فرمایا: ”میں یہ انگوٹھی پہنتا تھا اور اس کا نگینہ اندر کی طرف رکھتا تھا“، پھر آپ نے اسے پھینک دی، پھر فرمایا: ”اللہ کی قسم! میں اسے کبھی نہیں پہنوں گا“، پھر لوگوں نے بھی اپنی اپنی انگوٹھیاں پھینک دیں۔
