It was narrated that ‘Aishah said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: ‘There is no Prophet who fell sick but he was given the choice between this world and the Hereafter.’ She said: ‘When he became sick with the illness that would be his last, (his voice) became hoarse and I heard him say, “In the company of those on whom Allah has bestowed His grace, of the Prophets, the true believers, the martyrs, and the righteous.’” [4:69] Then I knew that he had been given the choice.”

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَرْوَانَ الْعُثْمَانِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَا مِنْ نَبِيٍّ يَمْرَضُ إِلَّا خُيِّرَ بَيْنَ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَمَّا كَانَ مَرَضُهُ الَّذِي قُبِضَ فِيهِ أَخَذَتْهُ بُحَّةٌ فَسَمِعْتُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ سورة النساء آية 69 فَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّهُ خُيِّرَ

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ   میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا: جو نبی بھی بیمار ہوا اسے دنیا یا آخرت میں رہنے کا اختیار دیا گیا جب آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اس مرض میں مبتلا ہوئے جس میں آپ کا انتقال ہوا، تو آپ کو ہچکی آنے لگی، میں نے سنا آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کہہ رہے تھے: «مع الذين أنعم الله عليهم من النبيين والصديقين والشهداء والصالحين» ان لوگوں کے ساتھ جن پر اللہ نے احسان کیا، انبیاء، صدیقین شہداء، اور صالحین میں سے تو اس وقت میں نے جان لیا کہ آپ کو اختیار دیا گیا ہے۔
