Surah Qadr
The 97th chapter of the Quran, Surh Qadr, also called Al-Qadr, is a short surah but holds a vast treasure in it. This Surah contains merely five verses. It is an exalted surah as it even adds glory to the event of Laylatul-Qadr, the Night of Power, within the context of Ramadan, considered to fall anywhere in the last ten nights during the month of Ramadan. It is spiritually significant, marking the occasion of the first revelation of the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).
The Significance of Laylatul-Qadr in Surah Qadr
First, the greatness of Laylatul-Qadr is established in Surah Qadr, the very first verse, and compared to worship and good deeds carried in a lifetime; that is, better than a thousand months. Allah (SWT) permits the Angels and Spirit, referring to Gabriel, to descend upon that night with peace and blessings until the advent of dawn, which applies to verses 4 and 5. The night is characterized by forgiveness, mercy, and acceptance of duaas. Allah (SWT) is Al-Ghafoor, The Most Forgiving One. He forgives His faithful believers who repent on that night.
