Shame of IPL
(sohail ahmed(university of karachi) , karachi)
The common cricket lover, like
you, I and millions of others, who treat cricket as the only religious & secular
sport has every reason to be livid on what seems now to be the biggest
cricketing fiasco in India’s cricketing history. Sresshant & Gurunath both had
made enough money to last their lifetime and generation ahead. Why did they do
this? It’s limitless greed and the failure to circumnavigate their temptation
.This incident gives us every reason to believe all cricket matches are fixed ,
there is always going to be that sneaking suspicion that the fate of the match
is decided even before a ball is bowled . For an average Indian, cricket offered
them comfort, a break away from their grueling life, an affordable Joy. You and
I live simple lives, whereas few people playing the game or involved in the
administration were hatching sinister, sordid plots & conspiracies to earn more.
Their costly thrills will hurt us. How on earth can the President of the BCCI
carry on? He has to resign on moral grounds that is the least he can offer as a
service to Indian cricket. We make the game big, and no one has a right to cheat
us, malign us. We deserve a better treatment certainly.
