Mount Safa History
Mount Safa is a small mountain from where Muslim pilgrims start the ritual of Sa’ee. However, the aim is to remember the efforts of Bibi Hajra (Blessings of Allah be Upon Her) that she did to find water for her son Hazrat Ismail (Blessings of Allah be Upon Him).
It is believed that Daarul Arqam was also based at the foot of Mount Safa. However, Daarul Arqam is the house that belonged to a companion of The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him)named Arqam bin Abil Arqam (Blessings of Allah be Upon Him). However, in the initial days of Islam, it was used as a place for preaching religious teachings.
Mount Safa Virtues
The importance of the sacred site can be elaborated from the verse from Quran Kareem. In Surah Baqarah, Allah said that “Verily Safa and Marwah are among the landmarks (distinctive signs) of (the Deen of) Allah.”
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) also utilized Mount Safa to preach Islam. Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (Blessings of Allah be Upon Him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be upon Him) climbed up Mount Safa when Allah revealed the verse in Surah Shu’ara [26:214]: “And warn your tribe (O Muhammad) of near kindred.”
The Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) also climbed Mount Safa after the conquering of Mecca. He faced the Kaabah and after praising Allah, he started making a prayer. Later he made the announcement, (to the local people of Mecca), “Whoever enters the home of Abu Sufyan has amnesty and whoever closes the door of his house has amnesty.”
