Bahadur Shah Zafar Poetry - Bahadur Shah Zafar’s poetry depicts the influence of pain on human. Pain brought by deception, loss and fate and though, his writings are full of rage, complains and sorrow yet there is a sukoot, stillness in his words. If you pick up Bahadur Shah Zafar’s ghazal, the world will run ahead, leaving you amid stillness and deep inside the heart shall bloom in sorrow. Strange it is how unpredictable and fast his life changed yet his poetry from the very beginning treasured the heart of sorrow and longing. Bahadur Shah Zafar’s Shayari encompasses around love and longing for beloved, too. He also wrote on subject of fragile realities of human and earth. Even expression of his naive thoughts which were then, matured in pain is present in the Bahadur Shah Zafar’s Qalam.
Bahadur Shah Zafar, the emperor of India, the Badshah and takht-nasheen saw his lavish cloak turn into dusty and vain, Dervishy peyvand. The man who lived uncertainly beyond anything, one day he was the Badshah and the other day, exiled prisoner. His life was a tragedy as Zafar writes;
sitam tumhāre bahut aur din hisāb kā ek
mujhe hai soch ye hī kis tarah hisāb huā
A keen resemblance in Bahadur Shah Zafar’s writing with Mir Taqi and Mirza Ghalib’s penning style is found. Ghalib who belonged to a royal family was put into a cell-like palace and Mir Taqi’s era was as sad and terrorized as Bahadur Shah Zafar’s. The readers find striking similarity in all of the poet’s compositions. Following verse by Zafar completely describes the haal-zindagani of these famous poets;
bulbul ko bāġhbāñ se na sayyād se gila
qismat meñ qaid likkhī thī fasl-e-bahār meñ
