After War

Poet: Ghanwa Mirza By: Ghanwa Mirza, Lahore

The town left untouched for decades
Memories too painful to hatch
Time will never come back
But with time it has healed
Only to prepare itself for new wounds
Blood of dead has been cleansed from the river
Stories buried with the rotten flesh
Yet we live with fear
Of history repeating itself
And now the winds escape in a hurry and the trees shiver
The clouds refuse to rain
As they recall the pain
Witnessing it all again
A tale too painful to remember
Too significant to forget
