The Total population of Pakistan (according to the last census that
conduct in may 2017)is more than 20crores. The literacy rate in Pakistan is 60%
of the total population ,that means 40% of the Population is illiterate. There
are many causes of low Iiteracy rate in Pakistan, some of which are
poverty,population expansion, lack of Schools in rural areas ,lack of adequate
budget and lack of poverty is the biggest resistance in policy implementation.
Increasing the literacy rate, that eventually influence the development of a
Education is the basic human right. It is obligated to the state to provide free
and compulsory quality education.
To improve the education system in Pakistan some big steps need to be taken Such
as providing uniform free quality education all over the Country in one medium,
providing scholarships forhigher education, career counselling,improving the
outdated syllabus, and by providing proper training to teachers.
According to Pakistan economic survey2019, literacy rate trends shows 62.3% in
2017-2018 as compared to 60.7% in 2014-2015 . Area wise analysis suggest that
literally rate increased in both rural and urban. Literally rate increases in
all provinces, KPK(54.1% to 55.3%),PUNJAB ( 61.9% to 64.7%) and BALOCHISTAN
(54.3%to55.5%), except in SINDH(63.0%to 62.2%) where marginal decrease has been

community well being. It can contribute to reduce poverty, reduce crime rate. It
is essential for social and human development.
